If a guy wants to open a door for you, go ahead and let him. You’re not coming off as independent by insisting on opening your own door or turning down a compliment. You’re just being rude.

Oh, and there’s some shit guys do that might be a little above and beyond. Do not kiss my hand. Please do not kiss my hand. It’s 2009.

In my case, it’s not that I’m “OMG SO INDEPENDENT” or anything.  I wouldn’t refuse anyone opening a door for me or anything like that.  Just the idea that a man is “supposed” to do shit like pulling out my chair for me is…silly to me.  I don’t get it.  I mean, I wouldn’t want/need a woman doing simple things for me either.  I’d much rather you put your time and effort into making conversation or something.
